PM Nawaz Sharif Visits Gilgit City after long Time<\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has visited Gilgit<\/strong> and announced various development Packages. The arrival of the Prime minister was long awaited. Earlier, the visit was delayed due to weather and Premier’s unforeseen commitments.<\/p>\n

The Prime minister came along with Governor Mr. Barjees Tahir, who also holds the office of Federal minister in Pakistan, Parviz Rashid, Federal Information Minister Irfan Siddiqui, Special Assistant to the Prime minister, and Marvi Memon.<\/p>\n

Various announcements were made while the premier addressed a large gathering in Gilgit city. Introducing\u00a0the development projects his government aims to undertake in the region, the premier said, \u201cWe will develop a Gilgit-Juglot-Skardu road.\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cDiamer-Basha dam is the biggest project in history of Pakistan,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cFlights shall be increased as new fleet of ATR 72 has arrived already in Pakistan and shall be operational in few days. Rail system shall be launched soon which will connect Khunjerab to Islamabad and then up to Gawadar.”<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWe wish to extend the current\u00a0airport or make a new one so jets can land in the region and cargo planes can land to export fruit and other local goods,\u201d the prime minister\u00a0addressed.<\/p>\n

The main Announcement was really about education. The premier said, “We shall build Baltistan University as we have Karakoram university already.”<\/p>\n

Regarding the Government laptop scheme, the prime minister announced that 208 laptops should be distributed to the deserving students of the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cIntelligent students shall be provided\u00a0\u00a0Rs2 million in loan to further their higher education,\u201d he announced.<\/p>\n

\u201cGilgit Baltistan government should promote export of fruit,\u201d Nawaz Sharif said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPak-China economic corridor would\u00a0deliver prosperity\u00a0for the area,\u201d the premier added.<\/p>\n

Further, he stressed, \u201cForestation in G-B is the top priority of the PMLN led government.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will also make Hunza a district,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Other development programs were announced, such as hydro projects in Naltar and road expansion from Jaglot to Skardu. Currently, the road is 4 meters. It shall be extended up to 7 meters. A Chinese firm<\/a> shall complete this project. \u00a0175 Km Gilgit to Jaglot road development programme was also announced.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
